A DVD Drive or DVD-ROM is used to define the physical and logical
format of pre-recorder DVD discs and computer multimedia aplications of DVDs.
The DVD Drive support disk with capacities of 4.7GB up to 17GB and access
rate of 600 KBps to 1.3 MBps.
The DVD-Drives as CD-ROMs uses a laser to read the data, continually firing
it at the reflective surface of the disc. An optical sensor synchronized with
this laser records any direct reflection returned from the DVD disc. They
have the ability to vary the stregth of the reading laser in order to read
the multiple layers of the different types of DVD Media.
DVDs are developed for a compact digital video format. Read-only drive allow
you to read data from DVDs and also they are compatible with CDs.
The Read-only or ROM drives can list up to two speeds. DVD Drives will typically
list 2 or 3 speeds. The first one is the maximum DVD data read and the second
refer to the maximum CD data read speed.

The speed of a DVD drive depends on which interface use. DVD Drives interfaces
are basically the data pathway that connects the DVD-ROM to your system.
These two interfaces for internal DVD drives are EIDE (Enhanced Integrated
Drive Electronics), which is the more mainstream interface. It’s more
common find motherboards pre-equipped with this type of interface. Also this
drives are less expensive, and easier to configure.
The SCSI (Small Computer System Interface), is more technologically advance,
and has a higher data transfer rate than EIDE drives, but if you want this
type of interface you also need to purchase a SCSI adapter card, cable and
terminator which made more expensive this interface.
