about DVD+R / DVD-R and other Digital Versatile Discs
DVDR its one of the different formats of DVD media, but before to start to talk
about this media we need to know what is a DVD? and how this Digital Versatile
Disc works?. The DVDs are the new era to play movies and now it’s a
excellent way to storage data, music, video, pictures and a several another
function.
DVDR are very similar to CDs, but they has much larger data capacity, we are
talking that each DVD can hold about seven times more data than CDs. DVDR
(DVD Recordable) stores up to 2 hours of very good quality DVD-Video, including
several audio tracks in formats like stereo, Dolby Digital or DTS and also
advanced menu systems, subtitles and still pictures that can be played by
many standalone DVD Players and most computer DVD-ROMs.
It is possible to have up to 4.37GB of data or mix DVD-Video and data on a
recordable DVD that can be played by most computer DVD-ROMs. DVD Recording
(DVDR) standards, DVD-R/DVD-RW and DVD+R/DVD+RW have similar features and
are compatible with many standalone DVD Players and most DVD-ROMs.
A DVD can up to four layers, two on each side, which mean that you can storage
a lot data a video depend the format of the DVD to choose. You can find four
different types of media:
Single-sided/single-layer
4.8GB Aprox. 2h. Movie Time
Single-sided/double-layer 7.95GB Aprox. 4h. Movie Time
Double-sided/single-layer 8.75GB Aprox. 4.5h. Movie Time
Double-sided/double-layer 15.9GB More than 8h Movie Time
The
DVD-R has a more conventional method of recording (similar to CD-R), and DVD+R
is formatted as it is recorded. Besides the DVD R 93% compatible with all
DVD's Burners (DVD-RW) and DVD+R 87%.
The formats of recording DVD's are fundamentally three: DVD RAM, DVD-R/RW
and DVD+R/RW, the last two are the most used for home DVD Backups. The names
they are similar, the only difference is "-" or "+" when
recording, however the differences are more evident. The R in the name means
that you can write the disc only one time, the RW can record the dvd-rw and
dvd+rw disc many times, like a conventional VHS Video Tape.
DVDs FEATURES
DVD-R and DVD-RW
DVD-R is a non-rewriteable format and it is compatible with about 93% of all
DVD Players and most DVD-ROMs.
DVD-RW is a rewriteable format and it is compatible with about 80% of all
DVD Players and most DVD-ROMs.
DVD-R and DVD-RW supports single side 4.37GB (called DVD-5) and double sided
8.75GB (DVD-10).
DVD+R and DVD+RW
DVD+R is a non-rewritable format, 89% compatible of all DVD Players and DVD-ROMs.
DVD+RW is a rewritable format and is compatible with about 79% of all DVD
Players and most DVD-ROMs.
DVD+R and DVD+RW supports single side 4.37GB (DVD-5) and double side 8.75GB
(DVD-10).
DVD+R DL
DVD+R DL or called DVD+R9 is a Dual Layer writeable DVD+R. The dual layered
discs can hold 7.95GB (DVD-9) and dual layered double sides 15.9GB (DVD-18).
